It serves 3 purposes. 1) The main reason it was installed was to reduce the radiated tick coming from the high pressure fuel system. This shield is on all ecoboost Ford vehicles. 2) It improves under-body aerodynamics for better Highway MPG. 3) It acts as the splash shield for the belts.
